Founder of Within the Wild
Kirsten Dixon is the owner and chef of Within The Wild, an Alaskan adventure travel company offering two remote lodges as well as backcountry guiding throughout Alaska. An accomplished and worldly chef, Kirsten leads the acclaimed culinary program and cooking school at Within the Wild lodges and is also the author of several cookbooks detailing her experience of living and cooking in the wilds of Alaska.
Along with her husband Carl, she owns and operates Tutka Bay Lodge, a seaside remote lodge in Kachemak Bay, and Winterlake Lodge, the Finger Lake checkpoint along the Iditarod Trail. The two lodges were named National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World and are the only two Alaska properties to currently hold this distinction. Additionally, Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards named Tutka Bay Lodge “Best Lodge in Alaska, 2018.” Kirsten and her family also own and operate La Baleine Café on the Homer spit in Homer, Alaska, which serves breakfast and lunch seasonally and uses local and sustainable Alaskan ingredients.
