Birmingham, Alabama (July 2025) — New Birmingham, Alabama boutique hotel, The Painted Lady (2143 2nd Ave S), is the latest to join Lark’s portfolio of independent hotels under management, one of many boutique hospitality offerings from the premium development and management company. Lark’s third party management services provide hotel owners with the perfect balance of autonomy and hands-on operational, tech, design, marketing, human resources, and revenue support. Lark also encompasses branded hotel collections, including its signature Lark Hotels, Bluebird by Lark, Blind Tiger Guest Houses, AWOL, and Life House.
“It’s an honor to have Lark selected as a partner in managing The Painted Lady,” said Peter Twachtman, CEO of Lark. “The property has so much soul, and a fascinating past; it’s the exact kind of singular boutique hotel experience that we are passionate about, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to manage it.”
Opened this spring, The Painted Lady is a 22-room and suite boutique hotel, occupying the old Eyer-Raden Building in the city’s Automotive Historic District. Legend has it that a boarding house was operated in the upper floors of the building by Louise C. Wooster, a famed madam who became a local celebrity when her selfless work as a nurse in the city’s cholera wards went public in the 1870s. Founded by Rob Blood in 2012, Lark is a leading operator of boutique hotels under 150 keys in North America. Lark combines a tech-forward ethos, hands-on development expertise, and people-first culture to maximize profitability for small to mid-sized hotels.
“The Painted Lady is a unique concept with rich history, and we needed a partner who knew exactly how to bring that kind of property to life,” said Drew Adams, Chief Enterprise Architect at Addicus. “Lark understands the character, creativity and operational excellence it takes to create great visitor experiences — they were the clear choice.”
Owned by Addicus Advisors, The Painted Lady blends modern, elegant charm with tributes to the city of Birmingham’s storied past. The once 19th-century boarding house with a scandalous history has been completely restored with vibrant and colorful designs and modern amenities. Pet-friendly accommodations are also available. Room rates at The Painted Lady start at $149.
