BLLA: What is the mission statement of your boutique hotel?

ZG: “Zero George is a boutique 16 room hotel infused with a sense of intimacy and warm personality, honoring the buildings’ solid 1804 bones and graceful architecture with measured, timeless design. At Zero George, you’ll find both period millwork and Charleston’s best contemporary art, original heart pine floors and rooms full of heart.”

BLLA: Why are you excited to be a member of BLLA?

ZG: “Resources and Community! The more ways our team can see and explore the luxury boutique segment of the hospitality industry the better and more informed they are and the more they can connect with our guests on it.”

BLLA: Why is community so important to this niche in hospitality?

ZG: “Our property fosters the community feeling with all our patios, gardens, and outdoor space where guests and residences can meet and become friends. This extends to these types of boutique properties. The guests that stay with us are looking for a unique experience – not just a bed. So as a community, we can work together to create a space to share ideas, data, and resources. Realizing that working together allows us to thrive, not compete.”

BLLA: How does your boutique hotel work with the local environment?

ZG: “The reason people come to Charleston is also what Charleston is known for. It preserves the history, protects the waterways and natural environments that surround it and undertakes programs to support it in the future. As a member of the community of Charleston, we feel deeply in protecting it so what makes us who we are is still thriving in the future.”

BLLA: Why do you believe in the boutique movement?

ZG: “Guests are looking for ways to connect. It is no longer about being a tourist, people want to feel the places they are visiting as if they lived there and called it home. Boutique properties can create that sense of connection and personalization that just doesn’t scale to bigger properties.”
