Miami, FL – The Shelborne by Proper in Miami Beach—Proper Hospitality’s first venture in the Florida market—is now accepting reservations for stays beginning May 6, 2025. Originally opened in 1940 on the iconic Collins Avenue, the historic Shelborne has long been a destination for distinguished guests and cultural tastemakers. Now, following a $100 million renovation, the 251-room beachfront property, including suites and villas—most offering sweeping ocean views—has been thoughtfully restored to its mid-century grandeur, reimagined for a new era of luxury and design.

Originally opened in 1940, The Shelborne by Proper carries forward the spirit of Miami Beach’s golden age, where Art Deco and tropical modernism became globally celebrated. Designed by Igor Polevitzky and later updated by Morris Lapidus, the building stands at the crossroads of heritage and future on Collins Avenue.

“We are proud to introduce Proper Hospitality’s signature blend of luxury and design-forward hospitality to the heart of Miami Beach this spring,” said Brian De Lowe, co-founder and president of Proper Hospitality. “With The Shelborne by Proper, we’re breathing fresh life into a Miami icon, pairing timeless design with a contemporary spirit that builds community through art, dining, and wellness.”

More than a restoration, The Shelborne embodies a new standard for relaxed, eclectic luxury that’s distinctly Miami. Rather than following trends, the hotel celebrates local identity, color, and culture—honoring the past while setting the tone for Miami’s future. As the city continues its renaissance, The Shelborne by Proper leads the way into a new era of sun-soaked sophistication.

ADC Atelier, the award-winning design studio behind the transformation, reimagined the landmark through the lens of Miami Modernism and Art Deco elegance, blending nostalgic elements with elevated, contemporary finishes. Key historic features—including the 18th Street façade and the iconic diving board at the property’s famed pool—have been carefully preserved and thoughtfully updated.

Guest rooms and suites are designed in a warm, earthy palette that evokes a sense of calm and connection to the natural surroundings. Expansive windows frame sweeping views of the ocean and Miami’s city skyline. Each space is thoughtfully appointed with custom details, including ceramic sconces, honed travertine flooring, handwoven wall coverings, bespoke furnishings, and handcrafted ceramics.

Among the signature accommodations is a 1,700-square-foot Two-Bedroom Terrace Suite, featuring a spacious outdoor terrace with views of the Atlantic and Miami Beach. The Two-Bedroom Terrace Suite showcases a curated mix of vintage and contemporary sculptural pieces, complemented by an expansive private terrace. Also available is the Penthouse, a one-bedroom suite offering 1,040 square feet of elevated living space, complete with a spacious ocean-view terrace overlooking both the pool and the ocean beyond. This suite can also be expanded into a four-bedroom Penthouse, making it ideal for shared space or larger groups. A collection of One-Bedroom King Suites offers panoramic ocean views from both the living areas and bedroom balconies. Additionally, the Two-Bedroom Pool Villas, located adjacent to the pool, feature kitchenettes, inviting lounge areas, and terraces for uninterrupted relaxation.

“The Shelborne project presented an exciting opportunity to blend timeless Art Deco elements with modern luxury,” said Aaron David Clarke, principal of ADC Atelier. “Our focus was on respecting the building’s storied past while crafting spaces that feel both inviting and contemporary for today’s guests.”

The Shelborne by Proper’s culinary program is developed in collaboration with the acclaimed Lowder-Tascarella team, bringing world-class expertise to every dining experience. The food and beverage offerings are led by Michelin-starred Chef Abram Bissell—a Florida Keys native celebrated for his work at New York City institutions such as Eleven Madison Park, NoMad, and The Modern—alongside Christopher Lowder, a globally recognized beverage innovator. Together, Proper Hospitality and Lowder-Tascarella are crafting a vibrant and immersive culinary vision rooted in the bold, expressive flavors of Latin America and the Caribbean, infused with the dynamic energy of Miami, at their signature restaurant, Pauline, and intimate cocktail lounge, Little Torch. Guests can enjoy a seamless transition from day to night at the grand Lobby Bar, serving coffee and light fare by day before evolving into a lively evening destination with craft cocktails, inventive dishes, and live entertainment. Signature offerings include a coconut-aged Manhattan and a strawberry-tequila espresso martini.

The property will offer a beach and wellness membership for local residents, providing exclusive access to select amenities. Hotel guests will enjoy a comprehensive 24-hour fitness center, a thoughtfully curated wellness program, and access to the Beach Club by Proper, situated along the golden sands of Miami Beach.

For events and gatherings, The Shelborne by Proper features over 30,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space, including a Terrace and Event Lawn ideal for conferences, galas, weddings, and oceanfront celebrations.
