The BLLA Team sits down with Carolyn Schneider, Co-Founder of Casetta Group, as she delves into her experience as a boutique hotelier.

BLLA: What is your company’s mission statement?

CS: “Seeking buildings with a story, Casetta creates timeless, thoughtful experiences that preserve architecture, highlight design, and champion guest service with sustainability in mind while creating meaningful opportunities for our team members.

BLLA: How did you enter the hospitality industry?

CS: “I started my hospitality career in restaurants in LA and as a server at Ace Hotel in New York. From there, I focused on hotels and worked in Events, Sales and Guest experience for Ace, Sydell, Proper and other boutique brands.

BLLA: What does “boutique” mean to you?

CS: “To me, boutique means experiential and personalized. I always feel that I get the best taste of a city through the lens of a great boutique hotel.”

BLLA: How are you an artisan?

CS: “It took me time to feel confident to identify as an artist – but I do feel that hoteliers are! We create 360 degree art experiences for our guests that tap into all of the senses.”

BLLA: Why do you celebrate the path of independence?

CS: “Casetta celebrates being an independent hotel in every way. We really lean into our unique properties and partnerships. Being independent gives us the flexibility to get creative and acquaint ourselves with the audience that is clicking with the brand.

BLLA: What advice would you give to first-time hoteliers?

CS: “Just get to work! The hotel industry is not easy, but it is rewarding. I appreciate that hospitality doesn’t require a PHD. Anyone can climb the ladder and be successful if they have the passion, hustle, and vision. Start at the bottom and learn everything you need to know.

BLLA: What would you say to hotel lenders & investors reading this?

CS: “Boutique hotels are how our contemporaries want to travel. No longer are modern travelers looking for cookie cutter hotels. They want to immerse themselves into the communities, learn about art and culture from the region and experience unique design. Boutique hotels are made for this.

BLLA: What’s next for you?

CS: “Casetta Group is gearing up to open our properties in Silver Lake, Taos and Big Bear in 2022. We are always looking for unique properties to renovate and will have more to come soon.
